Bittersweet....the January 2014 painting challenge is over. I actually need to catch up on some neglected duties. Thank you to Leslie for organizing! Thank you to all those who have followed my journey! So glad I have made new friends along the way! Cheers to a healthy, fun, prosperous year!

Arica's Art Adventure - Day 30 of 30

My final painting for this 30 Day Challenge is the painting I had the pleasure of teaching to a group of 10 ladies! I took them on Arica's Art  Adventure ~ A Colorful Journey! It's a NO EXPERIENCE required class of painting, eating & sipping on a favorite beverage! The rule is you must be positive & just go with it! I love having those that have never painted before create a masterpiece! It makes my heart smile to see the smiles at the end of the lesson because they are super proud of themselves! Here are a few photos from last night! We use acrylic paint for purposes of drying and ease of beginners covering up something if they don't like it.

"DEER at DUSK" - Day 28 of 30

Oh my goodness! I am so busy this week (every week).  This was inspired by the deer I saw recently at a friends home. Every evening between 15-20 Deer (minimum) come out at dusk to eat & play. A few were getting quite frisky. It was fun to watch. This is my Pen, Ink & watercolor interpretation of what I witnessed. Painted on 300lbCP Watercolor paper.  They are such beautiful animals. "RICHARD" - Day 27 of 30

Meet Richard the Rooster. This was painted from a photo I took of my sisters Rooster. Actually it's my brother in laws rooster. He just has to make sure there is a "man" taking care of the "ladies". 16" x 20" Acrylic on Canvas. Painted by me. Having fun with loose style acrylic painting. Keeping paint wet & layering colors, not getting to OCD with painting each feather etc.. I also wanted to make his tail feathers taller and him a little rounder.

"3 SPRING BIRCHES" - Day 26 of 30

"DIBS" - Day 25 of 30

I named this painting DIBS because it is my seat at the beach! I have DIBS on it :) This is an original acrylic painting painted by me. Don't you just want to go sit under that pretty pink umbrella, stick your toes in the sand, drink in hand and relax? I know I am ready! Especially because the winter in Maine is so harsh and long. This is an 8" x 8" acrylic painted on a heavy duty gallery wrapped canvas.

The water has a little more teal green in the original, the photo didn't pick it up well. Looks more tropical....

"MOOMUSE #11934" - Day 24 of 30

So I think Cows are the cutest! I grew up on a mini farm and miss it. I totally respect our farmers that work so hard to put food on our tables. We often forget when we go to the grocery store that the carton in the refrigerator comes from a special place! Along with those bricks of cheese, containers of cottage cheese, cream cheese, yogurt,beef tenderloins...so on & so forth! I got the inspiration for this painting from my friend Jenni. "ROSE 1" -Day 23 of 30

Every Rose has it's thorn except this one... The thorn is in my side saying "what are you going to paint?". My problem is I have a trouble not doing paintings with lots of detail.  I have to throw in a quick painting ...this 30 Day Challenge is not a stressful as the first time I participated but oh my...I can see how fellow artists have a "block" ..the pressure at times is overwhelming (especially when a full time job other than art is involved) & my personality won't let me skip a day - even though I know it's ok to do so. It is however winding down, I made it this far & will continue & finish. This is my Rose, one of my favorite flowers (I think I say that with every flower).  Painted on 300lb Watercolor paper. Image area 3" x 4" (approx) can fit a 5" x 7" mat.
